Writing my narrative story was a great and new expirience. I have written narratives but I never written about death before. Death is a deep and strong concept to write about because it can be viewed in many different ways. Of course it means the literal death of someone but it can be used to describe other things. For instance, my narrative tells the story of me and my cousin and how our friendship died as we got older due to distance and different priorities. I tried my best to go into detail on my emotions and how time was a big factor. I used sensory details to make time feel slow when my emotions were feeling poor. I also used the first few paragraphs to travel through years to show how quick our young years felt. I think this piece reveals my ability to take risks as a writer. I felt challenged writing a story that takes place over a long period of time and multiple places. The main challenge was being able to condense it and allow the same impact to come through. This was not easy, my draft was far from the final product and my peers really helped with their comments. I removed a whole airport scene from the story as it felt unnecessary to some of my peers and after reading through I felt the same. It allowed me to add more details and develop more characteristics within me and my cousin. But my peers also noticed how good my friendship with my cousin was which was the main focus of my writing. I tried to build on this so the impact would be stronger. Overall this assignment was fun and challenged me to condense and create a story filled with strong emotions.
